Manjunath is a film inspired by the real life story of IIM Lucknow graduate Manjunath Shanmugham, who as a sales-marketing officer for Indian Oil Corporation identified corrupt practices at a petrol pump in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Ignoring this malpractice is out of question for this man, as is getting his palm greased handsomely for keeping matters secret, and in a morally right step Manjunath seals close the petrol pump, pissing off the Oil Mafia. Several threats come his way, ignoring which he prefers in doing his job right. Ultimately he’s gunned down for standing up against the wrong.
The film stars Seema Biswas, Yashpal Sharma, Divya Dutta, Kishor Kadam, Rajesh Khattar, Anjori Alagh in important roles. The film’s written and directed by Sandeep A. Varma, and is co-produced by ICOMO & NFDC (National Film Development Corporation of India), and is releasing under Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The movie is slated for a 9th May theatrical release.
