1857 – In the Indian Rebellion of 1857, Delhi was seized from the British by Indian Rebels.

1998 – Operation Shakti or ‘Pokhran-II’ was carried out in Pokhran, Rajasthan in which three underground atomic tests were conducted, detonating one fusion and two fission bombs. This day has been since declared officially as National Technology Day in India.

2009 – Indian Navy Commander, Sardarilal Mathradas Nanda passed away. He served as the 8th Chief of the Naval Staff, also, led the Indian Navy during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and successfully executed a naval blockade of both West and East Pakistan, helping India achieve an overwhelming victory during the war. He was honoured with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 1961 and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 1966. He was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1972 by the Government of India.

2012 – An eminent name in the Hindi theatre, Ramesh Mehta passed away. He was famous for writing, directing and acting in plays. In 2007, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the Indian Theatre.
