1946 – Saint Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception, the first person of Indian origin to be canonized as ‘Saint’ by the Catholic Church,passed away. She was elevated to sainthood by Pope Benedict XVI in October 2008. Her tomb in Bharananganam, Kerela has become a pilgrimage site for devotees who have reported miracles.

Dhanush Kolaveri Di Fame

1972 – Communist leader who led the militant peasant uprising in Naxalbari, West Bengal- Comrade Charu Majumdar passed away.

1983 – The ‘Kolaveri Di’ singer and popular film actor Dhanush was born. Dhanush was adjudged the Best Actor at the National Film Awards in 201for his performance in ‘Aadukalam’ . He is the son-in-law of undisputed superstar Rajinikanth.
