China-based OPPO Electronics recently released the OPPO R5 smartphone in October 2014, which replaced Gionee Elife S5.1’s record as the world’s slimmest smartphone, measuring just 4.85mm in thickness. The company has now announced that OPPO R5 shall be launched in Indian market soon this December, and for promotional purposes, the phone in India shall cost $18 less that it does in other countries, thus bringing down the price to less than Rs 30,000/-.
The phone in its very-thin and light (just 155 grams) body packs supreme functionality, with specs boasting a 5.2 inch full HD (1080p) AMOLED screen with 423ppi and runs 64 bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor. The phone’s got 2 GB RAM and 4G LTE connectivity. The camera specifications are pretty good. Like the Xiaomi Redmi Note, OPPO R5 has got a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 MP front shooter, both with aperture of f/2. Equipped within the body is a 2000 mAh battery.
The hand polished aluminum body gives a strong yet easy grip. The design is undoubtedly the USP of this smartphone, but being the world’s thinnest phone it has its drawbacks. Music lovers may want to think twice as this phone does not sport a 3.5mm headphone connector, and the only possible route is using a Bluetooth headphone. The phone has a limited storage memory of 16GB, and has no microSD card option, so there’s just no way of memory expansion through SD card.
The OPPO R5 runs Color OS 2.0 which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat, and just like many other Chinese players, this is a customized Android version featuring several themes. The R5 also supports VOOC rapid-charging technology, which charges your phone from 0% to 75% in just half an hour.
The OPPO R5 shall even come in a gold variant, called the Guided Edition, which might cost more.
