"Barfi!" Features In The Oscar Long-List Along With Seventy Others.

Barfi!, the Indian nominee for the coveted Oscars, stands proud among the 71 movies identified for the 2012 Foreign Language Oscar category, stated the Academy. The Anurag Basu creation starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz attracted love from all corners (was even tainted with hues of plagiarism from a few), and we are indeed proud of its selection.

Other films in the foreign language category include the French wonder ‘The Intouchables’ of Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, and ‘The Patience Stone’ from the Afghan filmmaker Atiq Rahimi, Michael Haneke’s Armor- an Austrian candidate, Sweden’s ‘The Hypnotist’ from Lasse Hallstrom, Kim Nguyen’s Canadian submission ‘War Witch’, among others. First-timers Kenya too has two movies to boast off with the Algerian nominee ‘Zabana’ by Ould-Khelifa, and the Davish Tosh Gitonga directed ‘Nairobi Half Life’. Iranians, last year winners for the best foreign film, were missing from the Oscar race this time though- as the nation chose to back out as a expression of protest again the YouTube video ‘Innocence of Muslims.’

The final list of 5 nominated films shall be declared by the Academy on 10th January, 2013 and the official ceremony shall commence on 24th February, 2013.
