Directed by Hansal Mehta, ‘Shahid’ is a real life story of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi who was assassinated in 2010 in Mumbai. The premise is sketched during the 1993 communal riots in Mumbai. The movie stars Rajkumar Yadav (of Kai Po Che fame) in the lead playing Shahid, who aspired being a terrorist during his teens, served time in jail, and later on came clean as a defence lawyer and a human rights activist, who fought for people wrongly implicated with terrorism.  The film produced by Anurag Kashyap and Bohra brothers premiered globally at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, where it garnered lots of critical acclaim. The movie is being released in India by UTV Spotboy.


Apart from Rajkumar Yadav, the movie stars Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kay Kay Menon and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. Shahid is slated for a October 18 release.
