Set against the super-glam backdrop of the 1950s New York, Carol is an intense lesbian romance drama starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. The film based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price Of Salt has received almost all-positive reviews at Cannes Film Festival where it was screened earlier this year. It’s a powerful story of how a married woman, a victim of a loveless marriage, risks her all as she long fixates and finally initiates a romantic relationship between herself and a younger Manhattan department store worker. The beauty of the trailer is further enhanced by the fact that it’s set against the recording of My Foolish Heart.
Directed by acclaimed director Todd Haynes, this period film is a sure Oscar contender, and is scheduled to release late November. This shall be Cate Blanchett’s second film in this year’s Oscar lineup, the other being her drama Truth opposite Robert Redford.
