1857 – The British East India Company disbanded the complete 34th B.N.I. Regiment after a sepoy in the regiment of the English East India Company, Mangal Pandey, in opposition to the ammunition used in the Enfield P-53 rifle, attacked a British sergeant and wounded an adjutant.

1861 – A lawyer and a renowned activist of the Indian National Movement, Motilal Nehru was born. He was the father of Indian National Movement, Motilal Nehru. He also served as the President of the Congress Party twice. Nehru and Gandhi together took part in the Non-Cooperation movement which led to Motilal’s arrest. He then, with some others, formed the Swaraj party which opposed Gandhiji’s suspension of civil resistance in 1922, resulting from the Chauri Chaura tragedy. Motilal Nehru was the founder patriarch of the Nehru-Gandhi family, India’s most powerful political family.

1976 – The ninth Chief Justice of India, Koka Subba Rao passed away. in 1967, Rao contested for the post of President of India but lost to Zakir Hussain. He was honoured with a Doctorate by the Bangalore University.
