1823 – Parsi entrepreneur Sir Dinshaw Maneckji Petit, first Baronet and founder of the first textile mills in India was born.
1917 – The Grand Old Man Of India, Dadabhai Naoroji passed away. He was one of the founding members of the Indian National Congress.
1928 – Kalyanji Shah, of the famous composer duo Kalyanji-Anandji, was born.
1981 – President’s rule was imposed in Assam until January 13,1982.
