This Day In History- July 26

1927 – Late Gulabrai Sipahimalani Ramchand, former India Cricketer and Skipper was born. He captained India when they registered their first ever test match win against Australia. GS Ramchand was also one of the first players who endorsed a brand (Hair gel ‘Brylcreem’). He was also the manager of the team that participated in the 1975 Cricket World Cup.

Kargil Vijay Diwas 26th July

1999 – ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’. The Indian Army delivered the last blow as Pakistani army was cleared of the Drass sub-sector and the war ended.

2005 – Heavy rains lashed the country’s financial capital, Mumbai flooding major parts of the city disrupting daily life.

2008 – A chain of 21 bomb blasts rocked the city of Ahmedabad. This was exactly four months prior to the coordinated terrorist attacks on Mumbai.
