1929 – The cultural icon of Kannada, Rajkumar, or Singanalluru Puttaswamayya Muthuraju, was born. He was a renowned actor and playback singer in the Kannada film industry. Starting his career as a theatre artist, he made his debut as a lead in Bedara Kannappa (1954), a film which won 2 National awards. He acted in over 220 films winning 9 Karnataka State Film Awards, 10 South Filmfare Awards and 2 National Film Awards.
As a singer, he won the National Film Award for ‘Best Male Playback Singer’ for the song ‘Naadamaya Ee Lokavella‘ from the movie Jeevana Chaitra in the year 1992. He is also the proud recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award. On his 83rd birth anniversary, he was recommended for the Bharat Ratna by the Karnataka State government. A ‘Dr.Rajkumar Lifetimetime Acheivement Award for Excellence in Acting’ has been named in his honour.
1973 – One of the Greatest batsmen of the world, the God of Cricket, Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar was born. He holds a Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, and has been recommended for the receipt of the Bharat Ratna award.
