Microsoft Shortlists Potential Ballmer Successors; Satya Nadella Makes The Cut For Next CEO

Microsoft Corporation has shortlisted the potential CEO candidates to about eight people (five external candidates and three internal), one of whom shall be replacing current chief Steve Ballmer in coming months. The list for the CEO’s post in the world’s largest software making company includes the likes of former Skype CEO Tony Bates, former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, Ford Motor Co’s current CEO Alan Mulally and Indian-born Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise chief. Other candidates’ names could not be learned as of yet, but the committee is interviewing executives spanning several sectors- including life sciences and consumer.

Never mind the shortlist, the CEO selection is bound to take a few more months, sources within the company stated. The new CEO shall be supervising Microsoft’s transition into a device-and-service company delivering faster and stronger growth than outgoing CEO Ballmer, who helmed the company for almost 14 years. It was in August this year when he proposed his retirement within 12 months.
