Indigenous smartphone maker Intex, on Friday, floated its first ever touch and type phone christened ‘Aqua QWERTY’. The handset bears a price tag of Rs.4990. It supports dual SIM (GSM+GSM) functionality.


Aqua Qwerty is powered by a 1.2GHz Dual-Core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) OS. There’s 4GB of inbuilt storage space to accommodate data and apps. Memory can be expanded externally up to 32GB using a microSD card. A 1500mAh battery pumps life in to this handset.

Intex’s latest offering sports a 3.5-inch HVGA display. The smartphone’s equipped with two cameras. The primary camera is a 5MP snapper fixed on the rear panel while the secondary shooter on the front is a VGA. List of connectivity options includes the regulars- 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Micro-USB.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Business Head (Mobile) at Intex Technologies said that Aqua Qwerty is a product that offers the convenience of both touch and type features for users who not only love Qwerty but also wish to explore the experience of touch at the same time.

“We have stepped into the qwerty keypad smartphone segment after a lot of market research, and we believe that the Aqua Qwerty will be a vehicle of smartphone adoption in the highly untapped segment of women smartphone users in India, also meeting the needs of professionals who want to send error-free texts, without stressing too much on switching the keypad between signs, symbols, numbers and alphabets,” Kalirona said.
