Consuming Carbonated Beverages (Soft Drinks) Could Affect Child’s Memory

As per a study conducted by the University of Southern California , United States, carbonated beverages commonly known as ‘soft drinks’, may cause bone mutilation, tooth decay, and other weight related problems not only in children but also in adults.

An experiment was conducted on rats to observe that how susceptible brain is to the nutritional influences during the most significant periods of development like during the youth. It was seen that the youth faced a great amount of threat due to consumption of such drinks as these drinks can have adverse effect on health. The rats who consumed high amount of such sugary fluids or a high amount of high fructose corn syrup (HFSC) in concentrations which are equivalent to other well known sugary beverages, suffered from complications like memory loss, brain inflammation and some also became pre-diabetic. The rats who did not consume any such beverage were healthy and did not face any of the above complications.

Later on when the rats were tested on maze, it was seen that the rats who consumed large amount of HFSC drinks could not perform well as compared to other group of rats who had not consumed the drink, this is because irritation is caused in a part of temporal lobe which is positioned deep inside the brain to control memory.
