Loha Singh, a Kanpuria famed in his locality for being the Robinhood of electricity, is the local Katiyabaaz this documentary is based on. The documentary takes a comic take in underlying the issue of power-cuts in the city of Kanpur. With Loha we doctor the transformers and power cables to run small businesses and power several homes, much to UP Government’s annoyance.
Directed by director-duo Deepti Kakkar and Fahad Mustafa, Katiyabaaz could be for 2014 what Supermen of Malegaon was for 2012. And this comparison is only made for the subtle hilarity and insight shared in both. There have been quite a many powerful documentaries this year in Gulabi Gang and The World Before Her.
