In a historical moment on Thursday, Bollywood’s most celebrated scriptwriters Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan reunited after decades to unveil the first trailer of the classic “Sholay 3D”. The duo scripted commercially successful entertainers like Zanjeer, Sholay and Deewar, before going their different ways 32 years ago.
Commenting on the 1975 action drama starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, Akhtar said that they had not anticipated another version for this film. “We never knew a second version can be written too. What you see in ‘Sholay’ is absolutely the first version. We didn’t change anything. In Trishul, we rewrote the second half and discovered that a second version of a film can be written,” he said. Salim Khan stated that when B&W films could be remade in color, then why not re-launch Sholay in 3d. “It’s a good use of technology” is how he puts it.
The 3D version of the historic masterpiece has an official release date January 3, 2014. Watch the trailer here:
