1859- Anandram Dhekial Phukan, litterateur and regarded as father of Assamese literature, passed away. In 1849, he had published ‘Asomiya Lorar Mitra’, which is viewed as a milestone in the history of Assamese literature.

1925- ‘Deshbandhu’ Chittaranjan Das, leader of ‘Swaraj’ party, great freedom fighter and lawyer, died.
1950- Indian ‘Disco Dancer’ Mithun Chakraborty was born.
1997- K. R. Narayanan, Vice-President, was nominated as the joint candidate of Congress(I) and United Front for the post of President Of India.
