1856 – Great Indian Leader and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak was born. He was a strong proponent of ‘Swarajya’ or self-rule and ‘Swadeshi’and an active leader of the Indian Independence movement.

1906 – Great Indian Revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad was born.He was one of the leaders who were committed to achieve complete independence. A Key member of the Hindustan Republican Association, Azad was involved in Kakori train Conspiracy (1925) and also avenged Lala Lajlap Rai’s death by assassinating JP Saunders.
1927 – The Indian Broadcasting Company went on air with its first station in Mumbai(then ‘Bombay’).
1955 – The Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh was founded by Dattopantji Thengdi.It is the country’s largest central trade union organization.
1993 – INSAT-2B satellite of the INSAT-2 series was launched from French Guyana to facilitate multi-purpose communication, meterology and satellite based research and rescue.
