Restroom Hand Dryers Spread More Germs Than Paper Towels

A research was conducted at the University of Leeds, in which the experts tainted the hands with a bacteria called Lactobacillus which is unhazardous and not normally found in public washrooms. This was done to imitate hands which are not properly washed. Later on the traces of this bacteria were discovered in the air which is conclusive that it came from the unclean hands while drying with the electronic hand dryer. In this way bacteria is spread in the air and all the users of such electronic dryer nearby.

Using dryers leads to around 30% more risk of spreading airborne germs than that of using a normal disposable paper towel. This research plays a vital role to realize the ways in which bacteria spreads, thus causing various kinds of diseases.

This research was published in the journal of Hospital Infection.
