BlackBerry Passport Square-Shaped Smartphone Launched In India For INR 49,990/-

BlackBerry’s latest flagship smartphone – BlackBerry Passport – has been officially launched in India, and is priced a little shy of Rs 50,000/-. The smartphone was internationally announced last week, and India is among the first few countries where it’s being made available so soon. The phone could be pre-ordered on amazon, and would be available come 10th October. Passport features an unusual design for a smartphone, and has turned quite a few heads owing to its square shape. It has a 4.5-inch touchscreen with aspect ratio 1:1 and 1440 x 1440 pixel resolution. Below the display is a unique touch-enabled keyboard which merges physical keypad with virtual keypad functionality smoothly. Just a swipe or a flick would suffice to delete or enter a pre-selected word on the keypad respectively, just as we are used to doing on a regular display. Also, this is the first BlackBerry phone to run the latest BlackBerry OS 10.3, which includes voice assistance, an updated BlackBerry Hub, an improved camera UI, better security, updated icons and an RBI-approved inbuilt Wallet app. With this Os, the company even introduces the BlackBerry Blend, a new app that lets your phone content get displayed on computer (Mac and Windows) and tablet (iOS and Android).

On the hardware front, the phone includes a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD). Several connectivity options include 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. The main draw to BlackBerry Passport is the 3450mAh battery it holds within, which the company claims shall deliver a battery life of up to 30 hours. For photography needs, the phone has a 13MP primary camera with optical image stabilization that can record full-HD video, and the front 2MP camera is capable of video-recording in 720p HD resolution. Other important features include gyroscope, compass, a proximity sensor, 4 microphones, MHL port for TV-out and FM Radio.

BlackBerry Passport is available for pre-order now, and consumers pre-ordering the phone are entitled to an Amazon India gift voucher worth Rs 5,000 and 5000 Jet privilege miles.
