BlackBerry has joined forces with Google to enable its cross-platform EMM solution BES12 to manage devices equipped with Android For Work, which is Google’s means to securely separate personal and business data and applications. This move follows BlackBerry’s recent collaboration with Samsung Electronics to add an additional layer of security to top-end devices that come with Knox EMM solution.
Backed by BES12, Google’s ‘Android for Work’ offers a secure, dedicated profile for business data and applications, stated the BlackBerry press release. Also, BES12 shall be the most flexible way a user can manage Android For Work, it added.
The BES12 solution shall blend in with Android OS to enable platform-level containerization, which shall further eliminate the need for application wrapping, while providing liberal access to Google Now and any Android application available on Google Play that is authorized by an organisation’s IT policies.
Android for Work devices – both smartphones and tablets – shall be natively managed within the BES12 environment, which streamlines management of all device platforms and deployment models like BYOD and COBO in a single command and control center. Android For Work shall be readied with BES12 either on-premise or in the cloud, and shall be backed by BlackBerry’s high mobile security standards and trusted network architecture. Billy Ho, executive vice president, Enterprise Products and Value Added Solutions, BlackBerry, stated that the company is working with Google to provide users with solutions they can confidently deploy on all mobile platforms within their organisation. Also, users shall not have to sacrifice user experience, nor shall they be pushed towards more complex handling of their device with the BES12 incorporation in Android For Work.
BES12 support for Android for Work shall be made available in Q2 2015.
