Oh boy! I have forgot the count of Chinese manufacturers who entered Indian market in last few months. This time a Chinese manufacturer UMi has entered the sub-continent with its first offering to the market called UMi Hammer which is listed on flipkart. The phone is priced at 10,999/- INR.
On specification front, the UMi Hammer sports a 5-inch HD display and for a better performance the phone equips a 1.5 GHz 64-Bit MTK (MT6732) Quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.
Storage wise, it supports 16GB of internal storage which can further be expanded up to 64GB storage via MicroSD card. A 13-megapixel back camera with LED flashlight and it has a 3-megapixel front facing camera completes imaging hardware. It boasts a 2,250mAh battery and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box (upgradable to Lollipop). Connectivity option include dual-SIM, LTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The UMi Hammer comes with a one-year warranty and ten day replacement guarantee. Flipkart offers EMI options and charges Rs 100 for delivery across India.
Umi Hammer has to compete with likes of Yu and Mi as well as other budget phones in the affordable segment. UMi has fairly done a good job with its range of smartphones in Mainland China with likes of UMi Zero, UMi Iron, and UMi C1. But, I can say the pricing has gone wrong here. UMi should have bet on its latest release UMi Iron rather than on Hammer.
