Google Introduces GTalk-Integrated Free SMS Service For Indians! Gives 50 Chat Credits Free!

Google broadens its free SMS service to India, using which people can sent text messages from Google Chat to mobile handsets. This free-SMS service prevails in total 52 countries across Asia, Africa and North America. This feature went functional for Indians on October 10, and regular Gmail users may make full use of it. The feature works with all mobile operators in India.

To post an SMS, a user just has to add the respective phone numbers to his/her contacts, and the replies these SMSes shall get would pop up as chat replies, and just like your regular chats these will be saved in your Chat history.

Initially, Google hands out 50 SMS credits to very user, and with every sent message, the credits shall lessen by one. If an SMS gets a reply, the 5 more credits shall be added to the balance. In case a user’s credit hits the big zero, the credit shall automatically increase by one, after 24 hours. Also, users can send SMSes to themselves, reply to the same themselves, thus ‘buying’ a few credits. Facilities have been provided in case you want to ignore a particular sender’s message.
