J. Satyanarayana, Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India, proudly launched Param Yuva II (a 500TF variant of its predecessor PARAM Yuva)- the fastest Indian supercomputer and the 62nd fastest globally- at C-DAC Pune. This launch makes C-DAC the first Indian R&D institution to cross the 500TF mark.
With this launch, C-DAC has revolutionized the computational environment. The system is so developed to solve large complex computational problems, thus providing opportunity for further science and research advancements. Using hybrid technology, the rise in peak power from 54 Teraflop/s to 524 Teraflop/s was achieved without any substantial change in the electric power sucked up by the establishment. On the Community standard Linpack benchmark, the system achieved performance of 360.8 TeraFlop/s, and would’ve netted the 33rd position in the November 2012 List of Top Green 500 supercomputers of the world.
The supercomputer even offers over half a PetaFlop compute power with co-processor and hardware accelerators. The interconnection network consists PARAMNet-III and Infiniband FDR System Area Network. Param Yuva II even houses 200 TB high performance storage and support software required for parallel computing.
