The Indian Government is all set to finalize soon the features and specifications of the low-budget Aakash 4, the initial draft of which has already been readied but is yet to be formally presented before a committee, stated Department of Electronics and IT (DEITy). All this while the future of Aakash 3 is still foggy. J Satyanarayana, secretar of DEITy, stated that all the specs shall be designed keeping ‘low cost’ as the highest priority. So many features shall not be added, which could up the tablet’s cost substantially, he stated. So it is expected that the new Aakash 4 will share a close resemblance to elder brother Aakash 3 in terms of hardware and the software, with minor upgradations expected in departments of camera, storage and the connectivity options.
Answering whether private enterprises are keen on setting up a local manufacturing facility for the low-cost tablets, Satyanarayana said that while so far the proposals are yet to float in, but they’re keeping their hopes high for the same.
