2007- India’s governing coalition, UPA-I chose Pratibha Patil, the then governor of Rajashtan, as its presidential candidate, setting the stage for her to become the first female president of India. Her candidature was agreed upon after Left parties did not favor former Home minister Shivraj Patil’s nomination.
