Jammu and Kashmir may soon join the elite states offering metro rail services to commuters. The nation’s best consultancy company RITES has been sought out to introduce the Metro Rail in the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar. The RITES group is required to chalk out an in-depth mobility plan for the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, considering every single aspect of mobility- pedestrians, measures to prevail over traffic congestion and the introduction of metro rail- stated the Transport minister Qamar Ali Akhoon in a reply to an issue raised by MLA Chaman Lal Gupta.
Accidents are on a constant rise, with figures indicating 3,927 people being killed in 17276 road accidents in the state. Nearly 25k people survived the fatalities. Compared to other districts in the state, Jammu comes out a winner with highest number of vehicles- a high 33,353. And also the vehicle-registrations are increasing every year. For now- delineators, traffic cones and road dividers have been installed where needed to keep the traffic in check.
