Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has joined hands with the multinational toy and board game company Hasbro to introduce a special edition Transformer Mi Pad 2 toy to mark its sixth birthday on April 6. Inspired by Hasbro’s Transformers, the company decided to have its Mi Pad 2 toy Soundwave actually turn into a shiny 3-dimensional black and gold transformer. The bot turns into a seven-millimeter rectangle and transforms back in a 30-step process.
The special edition toy is a crowd-sourced project available only in China, and the company will begin shipping the toy to its supporters May 13 onwards if the funding threshold is achieved. The price for the toy is 169 Yuan. Xiaomi took to Twitter to release this news recently.
The Mi Pad 2Transformers edition is just a toy and not an actual working tablet. It is just meant to look like one. The actual Mi Pad 2 operates Android Lolipop-based MIUI-7 and has a special Reading Mode (to make it work better as an e-reader). Buyers also have an option to purchase MiPad featuring Windows 10 out-of-the-box and similar hardware.
The Mi Pad 2 features a 7.9″ display with 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution, just like its predecessor. It functions on a 2.24GHz quad-core Intel Atom X5-Z8500 chipset with 2GB RAM and houses two storage variants – 16GB and 64GB. The rear camera is an 8-megapixel camera, while there’s a front 5-megapixel camera for video calling. Mi Pad 2 connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Other than this, the tablet has a USB Type-C connector. The 6,190 mAh battery lasts long and supports fast-charging technology.
