A24 released the first trailer of the nightmarish feature film The Witch. Called a New England folktale, Robert Eggers’ intense debut is set in 1630, and revolves around a family which is excommunicated from its plantation due to the father’s objections to the community’s religious principles. But the new cabin near the woods where he shifts is greeted by a dreadful horror, changing their lives forever. If the trailer is any indication, I’m peeing my pants for sure watching the whole film.
The film has Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Katie Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Lucas Dawson, and Ellie Grainger in the lead, and is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2016. It was premiered earlier in Sundance Film Festival where it received superb reviews. Watch the masterfully shot trailer here, and let us know if it succeeded in stirring up the fear within you.
