Sushant Singh Rajput on his 29th birthday has received a sweet gift from YRF – a theatrical release of one of the most anticipated crime thrillers of 2015, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. The film is set in Calcutta of the 1940s, where Byomkesh Bakshy signs on for his first case to find a missing man. Our lead suspects that the man is not missing but dead, and starts investigating on the same lines, much to the annoyance of some.
The film based on a character created by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and is set for an April 3 release. Dibaker stated that a lot of research has went into the film as 1943 was an era when Calcutta was in real danger of being bombed by the Japanese air raiders, and the dockyard was even bombed. Fear and anticipation were equally felt because Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had called in the Japanese for support for a nationalist movement. The film employs this thread to its advantage.
Apart from Sushant, the movie stars Anand Tiwari, Swastika Mukherjee and Divya Menon in important roles. Watch the trailer here:
