Uttar Pradesh (UP) Tourism shall initiate a new scheme for visitors by end of January called ‘Lucknow by Cycle’, which shall be later adapted in the heritage cities of Varanasi and Agra. Amrit Abhijat, Director General tourism stated that under this scheme, bicycles shall be offered on rent to tourists. He added that in many countries like China, bicycles are rented at a minimal costs to visitors to visit some tourist spots.
Cycle city tours are also very common on Berlin, Munich in Germany, Amsterdam and London, and on similar lines UP tourism is initiating the ‘Lucknow by cycle’ scheme. Amrit stated that the Lucknow lanes which are not accessible by bus or car could be easily traversed on a bicycle.
The DG reported that considering the popularity of heritage walk, it has decided to make cycle tour a part of the walk. In the first phase, eight-geared cycles shall be offered by UP tourism for a ernt of Rs 200/-. The tour shall take place from Residency and will end at Shahnajaf Imambara via Chotta and Bara Imambaras. A guide would accompany the tourists to navigate and provide information about the historical monuments.
The move would be highly favorable to foreign tourists, who prefer riding cycles through the city lanes instead of taking bus. The scheme would be equally helpful in Varanasi and Agra where one has too many narrow lanes to travel through.
