Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited announced today, in his company’s Annual General Meeting, the launch of Reliance Jio 4G/LTE service in India. He said ‘Reliance Jio venture is dedicated to PM Modi’s vision for Digital India and it sure does. The much talked about 4G service will be offering tariffs, which will be give tough competition to other service providers such as Airtel and Vodafone.
In competition to Jio’s launch and its affordable services, Airtel and Vodafone have slashed their data/voice prices. But, do they stand a chance?. To start with, Reliance Jio data packs will start for as low as 5 paise per MB, which adds up to Rs 50 for 1GB, this is the cheapest data plan in India at the moment. Reliance Jio will offer data packs ranging from Small (S) to ‘XXXL’. The small plan starts at Rs 149 for 0.3GB data along with access to 100 SMSes.
All data services will free till December 31, 2016 after which users will be able to choose their tariff plan. The Reliance Jio data packs give users access to free voice calls and Jio premium apps. Jio Premium apps include JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioSecurity and JioMoney. Reliance Jio data packs with access to Jio premium apps is free till December 31, 2017. Reliance will also offer special packs for students of colleges and schools, under which up to 25 % more data will be offered in the same tariff plans.
Reliance Jio currently has 6 million subscribers and Mukesh Ambani has set a target of 100 million for his team. Looking at the aggressive marketing Reliance is doing that dream doesn’t seem to be far from becoming reality.
