One of India’s leading budget smartphone manufacturers, Micromax, announced that the company successfully sold over one million units of its flagship brand ‘Canvas’.
Ever since the first Canvas phone, A100, was launched in August 2012, the range received tremendous response. Subsequently, the Canvas 2 A110, A116 Canvas HD and Canvas Viva A72 were also added to this range. Their newest addition will be the ‘Canvas 3D A115’, Micromax’s first 3D smartphone which is expected to be released in the first week of May.
According to Shubhodip Pal, CMO, Micromax, the Canvas series had set a trend in the Indian segment of smartphones. The demand for these devices after their launch followed an upward graph only. He also added that it was the consumer response that made Micromax confident about direction it was heading into and that it would continue to bring out even more exciting range of ‘Canvas’ smartphones.
In February this year, on the eve of Valentine’s Day, Micromax witnessed a digital rush for Canvas A116 HD. Around 9,000 units of the phablet were sold within 24 hours. The device was briefly unavailable in the market due to shortage. Dubbed as ‘Superphone’ it was initially introduced with a price tag of Rs.13,990 which later read Rs.14,499 owing to the changes introduced in custom duties.
