The Giant in Small Car segment, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has now shifted its focus towards the market for commercial vehicles. According to reports, Maruti Suzuki plans to drive into this market in its ‘Y9T’.
The Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) under making will be powered by an indigenously developed 800cc twin-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine. The LCV is being developed at the auto major’s R&D centre in India and is expected to be rolled out from its Gujarat facility in the year 2016. The LCV will surely pose a tough challenge to Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo, two most successful load carriers of the country.
It is also learnt the company may have its own set of diesel engines and is considering extension of range of diesel engines with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder and a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder engine. This would help Maruti look beyond Fiat’s multijet diesel engine that has driven its cars. It is speculated that even bigger engines may be developed that would power Maruti’s vehicles in future.
