Ssangyong Rexton RX6, the latest mid-variant premium SUV between entry-level RX5 and the top end RX7, has been launched in India for Rs 19.96 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). Rexton Rx6 offers equipment similar to the RX7, but features a 5-speed manual transmission and not the latter’s 6-speed automatic gearbox. For engine, the SUV equips a 2.7-litre XDi270 5-cylinder diesel motor that delivers 162 HP and generates 340 Nm of torque. The RX6 even has a Torque-on-Demand manual 4 x 4 system, while RX5 offers just rear wheel drive. Among other equipments feature an electric sunroof with open/tilt functionality, speed sensitive power steering, infotainment system with navigation, 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat + memory function (3 presets) and ORVMs, rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps.
Rexton RX6 offers huge returns on safety. In addition to the regular ABS and EBD, the car has an Electronic Stability Program, anti-slip regulation and active rollover protection, hill descent control, and front+side airbags. Vijay Nakra, VP-Sales, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. stated the the RX6 was developed after heeding to several customer feedback, one of which demanded the requirement for high end and luxurious features in a manual transmission model.
The Ssangyong Rexton RX6 has a comparatively lower price when compared to its competitors, and still packs in more equipment and features. So as far the financial proposition is concerned, I believe this car offers the best value. In market, its major competitors would be Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and facelifted Ford Endeavour.
