Akshay Kumar today confirmed on Twitter that he’ll be playing antagonist against Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in upcoming Shankar film Enthiran 2 (also Robot 2). AR Rahman shared an image on social media with some of the cast members.
This film is a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran/Robot where Rajinikanth essayed a double role playing both the hero (Dr. Vasigaran) and the villain (Chitti). It was rumored that Hollywood biggie Arnold Schwarzenegger had been roped in to play villain in the sequel, but looks like the agreement couldn’t materialize. The producers moved on and cast a Bollywood actor as his replacement, one who is extremely comfortable in action sequences and who has pulled off some brilliant performances as a villain in the past – Khiladi Kumar!
Amy Jackson has been cast as the female lead in this project, and it’s reported that she too will be playing a robot on-screen. Shankar did briefly cast her as a machine in I, where she was brilliant by the way, so maybe that portion can be fully explored.
The film went on floors December 16, 2015, and is expected to release next year.
