During Chinese premier Li Keqiang’s meetings held with PM Manmohan Singh, India and China inked 8 pacts for cooperation on trade, culture and water resources. These pacts were signed as a ‘stronger mechanism’ to avoid repeating the 20-day-long impasse, which strained ties, and fast track talks for an early settlement of the border dispute. The special representatives for boundary talks – national security adviser Shivshankar Menon and state councillor Yang Jiechi – are expected to meet in Beijing in June.
