Piyush Naik is the author of ‘Oops! I fell in love with Don’s Daughter’. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors of Engineering from Pune University. Let’s hear what he has to say about his debut book, experiences and how authorship has changed in his life.
Tell us something about yourself and your book?
I’m still a teen, currently studying engineering. I hang around with friends; spend a lot of time doing nothing. (smiles) To be serious I’m just like any other teenagers, I go to college, have to study, give exams and all other stuff.
‘Oops! I fell in for Don’s daughter’ has cocktail of emotions, which will take you back to your carefree school days. It wittily narrates the divine feeling of crush, excitement of love, explores the relation called friendship, with some bizarre coincidences and great misunderstandings. Each and everyone can relate to it in some or the other way.
What made you write a romantic novel? Was it the commercial value or something else?
There wasn’t any specific reason; I didn’t do market research before writing the book. I enjoy reading romance novel, and was tired of reading same college romance, so I wanted to read something different and then this story came to me.
‘Oops! I fell in for Don’s daughter’ is about the protagonist falling for a gangster’s daughter. Have you met one in real life or was it your imagination?
I would say it’s a mixture of both. As there is a thin line which separates reality with fiction, and my book stands on that line.
Which authors and people who have inspired you in your life?
Chetan Bhagat is the one author who has inspired me in a lot ways, and there are many people who has inspire me, everyone who I have meet has inspired me some or the other way.
If you wanted to re-write one novel, which would it be and why?
If I ever got a chance I would like to write ‘2 States’ it is one of the most amazing book, it shows various shades and does not settle in just college or just marriage or just love, it has everything in proper proportion.
What would like to tell the aspiring authors and your readers?
Just believe in yourself, people might say things, but if you believe in it. Just do it. Rest is being taken care of.
