Everything Christopher Nolan creates is gold, the audience has realized this and so have the big production houses. What makes him so bankable is his capability to bridge art with commercial, he also is one of the few filmmakers left who work on original screenplays and also make them work both commercially and critically. His last blockbuster, Interstellar, made a whopping $675 million at the box office and also holds a 71 % fresh rating on rotten tomatoes. But that is in the past and as every legendary filmmaker endeavors into war films, so has Mr. Nolan. Spielberg, Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola all made a switch into war films and we all know how important those films were in cementing their filmmaking careers. Now, it is Nolan’s turn to make that transition with his latest movie, which as always is also co-written by him, ‘Dunkirk’. Who knows, this will get him an Oscar too. It is an open secret that the academy loves war movies.
‘Dunkirk’ is a creative adaptation based on the evacuation of allied soldiers during World War II. The movie stars a few of Nolan’s regulars – Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie), Cillian Murphy (Inception), James D’Arcy (Cloud Atlas) and Tom Hardy (The Revenant). The film that highlights the pathos of war will hit theaters in July 2017.
