The Department of Telecom (DoT) intends to adopt technology developed by Telecordia, that’ll assist government authorities to track lost or cloned mobiles in real time. Telecom Secretary R Chandrashekhar has reportedly asked the concerned officials to start functioning over the proposals forwarded by the MNP Interconnection Telecom Solution of installing Central Device Information Registry (CDIR), one of the company that’s involved with the government over Mobile Number Portability (MNP) project. As per the report, Telecordia, stakeholders with MNP Interconnection, developed this tech to resolve the tracking issue of lost cellphones, and even assist in blocking a device that has been identified as invalid, counterfeit, blocked or cloned.
Before proceeding with the trial, DoT is ensuring that no misuse is made of the data collected by MITS in the course of the pilot project.
