As per a research conducted by the scientists from University of Florida, one should refrain from drinking warm water from a plastic bottle if it has been kept for some time, since a material known as polyethylene terephthalate is used in making plastic bottles which when heated releases harmful chemicals known as bisphenol A (commonly know as BPA) which as per World Health Organization (WHO), is a carcinogen that causes cancer. It may also have adverse effect on children’s health.
Another research team kept 16 bottled water at 70 degree Celsius for approximately a month and concluded that it was detrimental to health since the BPA levels in the bottle increased.
Drinking such warm water infrequently is not hazardous but frequent consumption of such water may lead to serious health problems. It is applicable to not just water but to all packed beverages.
