German auto giant Bayerische Motoren Werke or in simpler words- BMW, on Tuesday, rolled the popular ‘1 series’ out of its stables to take on the asphalt in India, with a price tag that starts from Rs 20.9 lakh. The Series is a successor to BMW’s 2 series. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Armaan Ebrahim took the veils off of BMW’s Dynamic 1. The completely knock down 1 series will be assembled at the company’s Chennai facility.
Both petrol and diesel variants will be made available. The diesel version, dubbed BMW 118d, will be powered by a 2-litre TwinPower turbocharged engine with transmission being 8-speed and automatic. The Engine generates maximum power of 143BHP (4000 rpm) and maximum torque of 320Nm (750 – 2500 rpm). It gulps a litre of fuel for every 20.58 Km. This variant of the 1 series can zoom to 100 kmph in just 8.6 seconds. Three editions of the diesel namely Base (Rs.22.9 lacs), Sport Line (Rs.25.9 lacs) and Sport Plus (Rs.29.9 lacs) will be available.
The petrol version, dubbed BMW 116i, comes with 1.6-litre turbocharged engine also mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It produces a maximum power of 136 BHP (4400 – 6450 rpm) and maximum torque of 220 Nm (350-4300 rpm). It runs for 16.28 km for every litre of petrol. It can zoom to 100 kmph from rest in just 8.7 seconds. Only option available in this category is the ‘One Trim’ (Rs.20.9 lacs).
The 1 Series comes equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic vehicle immobilizer and crash sensor, Side-impact protection, iDrive, Park Distance Control among other features. Colour options include Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Crimson Red, Deep Sea Blue, Glacier Silver, Midnight Blue, Mineral Grey and Valencia Orange
