If the Indian geeks at Pricebaba had their say at Google Android 4.4’s naming ceremony, the OS would’ve now been Android KajuKatli, and not Android KitKat. But since the official confirmation favoured the latter, these undeterred geeks now project their hopes on Google’s next Android version, and want it to be named Ladoo. To make their point, the fellows have launched an online Android Ladoo Campaign, that adheres to Google’s naming conventions of naming their OS after a sweet (Ladoo is made by rolling flour, sugar and other ingredients into a ball-lump).
This is what the campaign states in its website:
We are Indians. We have a big heart. We understand that there might be commercial pressures to do so. Or may be our voices were just not loud enough to make KajuKatli Android a reality. We still love Android and we are committed to see a version of Android that is dedicated after an Indian sweet. With enough advance notice this time, we request you to name the next version of Android as LADOO.
To further pin this note, Pricebaba is planning to send boxes of Ladoos over to Google executives, more so to add visibility to their campaign. If Key Pie Lime was rejected by Google just because many people weren’t aware of its taste, a similar jury may work against Ladoo. Sundar Pichai, Google’s Android head, may show some heart to this campaign as he’s been reared in India. Atleast he’ll relish the Ladoo box Pricebaba sends him, if not anything else.
