India’s largest private telecom operator Bharti Airtel today stated that it has initiated 4G long-term evolution (LTE) services for Apple iPhone 5S and 5C subscribers in Bangalore, thus enabling butter-smooth HD video streaming sans buffering, downloading 10 normal-sized movies in about 10 minutes, connecting multiple devices without any experience constraints, among other features. Other users for these iPhone users is, they can enjoy the benefits derived from 4G services at 3G prices, Bharti Airtel said in a statement. All customers have to do is change their existing SIM to a 4G SIM (no need to migrate from the current data plan) to enjoy 4G facility on mobile while on the move.
Customers using 2G/GPRS data plans may opt for any one of the 3G data plan suiting their requirements to make use of the 4G speeds. Also, heavy data users can switch to 4G plan that lets them use 10GB for Rs 1000/-. While data shall be borrowed via 4G network, voice calls shall be routed to 2G/3G networks seamlessly via CSFB (circuit switched fall back) technology.
In the 10-day spectrum auction, Airtel won back 900 MHz in Delhi and Kolkata and added the same in Mumbai. Its Delhi and Kolkata licenses were about to expire in November this year. It even won 1800 MHz spectrum in 15 circles. In total, it has placed bids worth Rs 18,530 crore for a total of 115 MHz of spectrum in 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands.
