The third child of the Indian-made Aakash tablet PC is all set to go mobile next year. With a SIM-card slot support, the tablet could be quite comfortably used as a communication device- running both Linux and Android OS, and even boasting of advanced memory. Nearly 50 lakhs Aakash 3 tablets shall be launched in next phase, and global tender for the same would be floated by February 2013, stated PTI.
The earlier variants of Aakash tablet had just Wi-Fi support for connectivity. But the new devices promises a SIM-support, Android OS and a larger memory- all in present price tag. The Aakash 3 tablet is being developed under the supervision of Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala (IIT-Madras) and Prof Deepak B Phatak (IIT-Bombay) among others. The project shall be assisted by several IIT-Madras Students and DataWind manufacturers.
