In a poll conducted by Sanona, UK’s largest online PPV Indian movie streaming service, cinema lovers have voted Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as the “most favourite feature film of the past 100-years of Indian cinema.” This film starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in lead roles even holds record for the longest-running film in the history of Indian cinema, having completed 900-weeks at the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai.
DDLJ was also among the first films which introduced NRI into contemporary Hindi cinema, thus adding the foreign locale magic into standard storytelling. It’s even the second film to cross the 100 crore mark globally. In 1996, the film was a recipient of 10 Filmfare Awards, including four major awards for Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.
