This is such a sad year already. While we were just about to make peace with David Bowie’s departure, here comes another news that’ll shatter many fans. Alan Rickman, a prominent British actor of last three decades, has died of cancer in London aged 69. His gent and his family confirmed the sad news on Thursday.
The actor made initial splashes on the big screen in 1988 when he starred as Hans Gruber, the most wicked antagonist Bruce Willis’s character could hope for in Die Hard. Pretty soon he got more interesting baddie roles – an appalling sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and the utterly remarkable Rasputin in a famous 1995 HBO film. Later on he made fans of an entirely different generation starring as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter movie series, where he was feared and loved with equal intensity by both children and adults.
Rest in peace, Alan Rickman. You’ll stay in our hearts as Lily James stayed in Snape’s. Always.
