Is this news real? Very much. Seems like soon there’ll be Pepsi-branded Android phones all over the place. As if the fizz wasn’t enough already. The new smartphone called Pepsi Phone P1 is already available for $78in China through a crowdfunding website named JD Finance. The smartphone has been manufactured by a Shenzhen-based Scooby Communication Equipment Company. Pepsi had announced its plans to enter the smartphone segment just last month! Wow, that’s fast.
The phone runs Koobee’s customized Android 5.1 Dido OS with a Pepsi out-of-the-box theme. It features 5.5 inch curved 2.5D display with 1080p Full-HD resolution. It’s powered by an octa-core MediaTek M6592 processor with 1.7Ghz speed and Mali 450-MP4 GPU, and has 2GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage, extendable to 64GB via microSD. For camera there’s a 13-megapixel shooter in the rear and 5-megapixel shooter in the front. For added security purposes, there’s even a finger print scanner located below the rear camera. The battery holds a 3000mAh battery. The sleek aluminum metal body even features the signature logo of the company.
There are two variants in Koobee’s Pepsi Phone crowdfunding campaign – P1 with TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA radios for China Mobile, and P1s with additional FDD-LTE plus WCDMA radios for china Unicom and other parts of the world. For the $78 price tag, it was no wonder that the limited stock of 1000 P1 smartphones got sold out in s short span of time. There’s still a chance you may grab the slightly advanced P1s model though.
The campaign will last until December 3rd to try and reach its goal, and going by the current participation (less that 50% as of now), the result may not be as bubbly as its aerated soft drink.
