China on Wednesday successfully launched a new civil communications satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Called Zhongxing-2C (or Chinasat-2C), the satellite was carried by the Long March-3B carrier rocket. Developed by China Academy of Space Technology and owned by China Satellite Communications Co. Ltd., the satellite shall be used to provide radio, TV transmission and broadband services to TV stations, radio stations, radio transmitting stations and cable networks. This launch was the 216th mission Long March carrier rocket series.
The Long March 3B rocket launched at 1625 GMT (11:25 a.m. EST) Tuesday with the Chinasat 2C, as reported by China’s state-run Xinhua news office. The information revealed the circle’s low point (or perigee) was 194 kilometers with a calculated 27.1 degrees to equator. The rocket’s upper stage ferried the Chinasat 2C payload into a geostationary exchange circle extending up to 35,839 kilometers above Earth, as indicated by US military. The mission was registered a success.
