After Madras Cafe, Shoojit Sircar returns to the big screen with Piku, a film primarily based on father-daughter relationship. Deepika Padukone plays the titular character, with Amitabh Bachchan as her father. ‘Release your emotions through your motions’ reads the tagline, and the trailer focuses on how exactly toilet-behavior connects every relation at play here. As Irrfan Khan puts it to Amitabh – “Kamaal hai, haap har baat ko pet se kaise jod dete hai.” Kamaal indeed.
The film has been extensively shot in Kolkata, and even Amitabh’s Bengali-Hindi sounds believable. The music in the trailer is brilliant and goes well with the mood. Looking forward to the complete album release. Another interesting thing to look out for in this film is the love-web weaved between Deepika and Irrfan. Both these brilliant artists shall take the romance to an altogether different level.
YRF is truly on a dream run this year. Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! and then Piku. It’s good to know that a major production house is finally putting its money on fresh concepts. And family-comedies always find a way to click with the audience.
Piku is scheduled for theatrical release on May 8th, 2015.
